Change Assistant (CA) is a tool to assist customers about JD Edwards updates. The updates include News, ESU's, Objects, SARs, instructions, ESU comparisons, upgrade guides, visual compare for UDC descriptions, and glossary text. CA is installed directly on deployment server or on individual machines that carry install base.
Using CA, a customer can now check for new updates, track SAR logs, download specific SARs, and deploy on server to each environment. CA works intercatively to track these sort of updates. The Document and Impact Analysis section has been revised with a new stylesheet where multiple ESU's can be highlighted. Queries on ESU allow drill down capabilities retrieving special instructions under package details.
Some new features also include the an addition on work with packages. CA will extract and xml file to run an impact analysis of current E1 installation versus the new chosen file. This file will reveal what type of chage can be expected with deploying that item. OMW can be skipped for project creation using the "Skip OMW and Package Build Data" under Preferences. This may be prove to be useful for the larger installations of JDE.
The search features are also another enhancement allowing several querying capabilities to instantly retrieve module specific SARs, ESU's or objects. JRE 5.0 UPdate 3 is required before CA can be installed. CA need not be upgraded as it automatically retrieves upgrades and applies to itself. CA can be found with 8.9 versions and up. An XE connection is still being worked on. These are some of the integrated features of Peoplesoft added to JD Edwards product line for leverage on install management. Overall, this tool is very helpful for management of objects within the JD Edwards environment with ability of use by varying levels of JDE roles.
